IN MEMORIAM

Members and friends of WSSCA that we have lost

July 19th.  2008.  Rob Houlahan

robhoulahan.jpg (46776 bytes)

In the last few years, we’ve lost several of our valued club members. It's always hard to lose a friend, but it’s always harder when it comes unexpectedly, and to someone who was still relatively young of age, and definitely young at heart.

On Saturday evening, July 19th, we lost another dear friend, and beloved club member, when Rob Houlahan passed away of heart failure at the age of 51. Rob had been in Evergreen Hospital after suffering his 4th heart attack in the past couple of years. He had rallied back, and was apparently doing better Friday, but early Saturday morning he took a turn for the worst, lost consciousness, and passed away peacefully later that evening. His mother, & family, were at his side.

Rob had been dealing with many health issues over the past few years, not the least of which resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee. Throughout it all, Rob always maintained a positive attitude, and dealt with it head on. He never seemed to let it get him down.

Rob, his mother, May Ellen, and his father, Bill, had been long time members, and very active in supporting the club throughout that time. We lost Bill several years ago, but Rob & May Ellen continued their support, most visibly by being the mainstay at our admissions table at every club show for the past many years.

Beyond that, Rob had an abiding love for baseball. He & May Ellen attended Mariner Spring Training every year, and they were season ticket holders, & rarely missed a game. And he loved collecting autographs & baseball memorabilia. Rob always had stories to tell, about how he got this item or that item, and he always had a smile on his face when he told them. Now, he will be able to watch, and play, baseball anytime he wants. He's with the greats of the game. Rob is happy now. And he will not soon be forgotten.

Our sincere, & heartfelt, condolences go out to May Ellen, and the Houlahan family. A memorial service for Rob will be held on Sunday, July 27th, at 2:30PM at the North Kirkland Community Center, 12421-103rd Ave. N.E. in Kirkland, WA.

September 2007.  Bill Norgren

with heavy heart, WSSCA announces the passing of member BILL NORGREN.  an active member and friendly face at our club meetings.  Bill loved all sports with a passionate love of Washington State High School Football.  He was an active member in our discussions.   He was our friend.  He will be missed by all.

quoted from the Seattle Times 9/19/07

William A. "Big Bill" Norgren: Passed away September 14, 2007 in Renton. In 2000, Bill retired from the Tukwila School District after 30 years of service. He was a long time member of the Washington State Sports Collectors Association and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 1/2 years, Dixie; nieces, Natalie, Sarah, Emily and Norene, family and friends. In lieu of a service, memorials may be made to Children's Hospital. Bill's final request was for his family and friends to enjoy life and to be kind to one another.
